DIGITAL PRINT & DESIGN

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Where do I start?
A. If your project needs to be designed give Jessica a call at 530.893.0995 and she will contact you to find out what you would like. You can also email her at
jessicacummings@att.net .  If your project is already designed we can handle your digital files and see your project through to completion.

Q.What kind of files do you accept?
A. We are an Adobe Print Provider so we accept all Adobe applications. We are currently using CS2.3. Our preferred file format is an Adobe PDF. In addition to Adobe we accept Microsoft Publisher files, Microsoft word, Excel, Powerpoint and other Home Office programs*. *There may be extra charges for some of these applications.

Q. Can I email my files?
A. Yes, or you can upload them to one of our FTP sites. On this page you will find links to download trial versions of compression software and upload software. You can always call us and we'd be happy to walk you through the process. After all, personal service is part of the Digital Print & Design difference. Files can be emailed to
dpdorders@att.net

Q. How much does it cost?
A. That's a good question! We will need to know a little more about your project. How many pages, what size, color, paper, finishing? Just click on our "Estimates" link and we'll work up a price for you.

Q. I picked a color on my monitor, why doesn't the print match?
A. All brands of monitors have different color calibrations. This is why we prefer to do a hard copy proof for color matching. More sophisticated software applications insure better matching, but some of the small office programs have limitations.

Q. What picture formats do you accept?
A. Your print will only be as good as the original. A .tif, hi-res .jpg, png, NO .gifs! We could take up ten pages in picture quality alone. If you're in doubt, give us a call.

Q. How long does it take to get my order?
A. About three to five working days. Make sure to allow extra time for special paper orders or complicated finishing techniques. Our goal is to make you look good, and keep you on schedule. If you need a little extra hand holding -- you can count on us!
Q. What is a PDF?
A.    PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format that has captured all the elements of a printed document as an electronic image that you can view, navigate, print, or forward to someone else. PDF files are created using Adobe Acrobat, Acrobat Capture, or similar products. To view and use the files, you need the free Acrobat Reader, which you can easily download. Once you've downloaded the Reader, it will start automatically whenever you want to look at a PDF file.

Q. What does DPI mean?
A.
Digital images are essentially made up of little "dots". We use DPI (Dots Per Inch) as a measure of resolution. Generally speaking, the higher the number, the higher the resolution. We generally need 300 or higher dpi for print quality.

Q. What is a "Full Bleed"?
 A. An image or illustration that reaches the edge of the paper on any or all four sides. Also known as borderless printing. Extra charges often incur since bleeds require the image to be printed on larger paper than the final trim size.
Q. Where can I find some of the programs you described?

. I've listed links for a few of them here on this page. Some of them are shareware (free) and others have trial versions.
